Professional Layout Photography

What model railroader hasn't dreamed of having his or her layout featured on a calendar, in an article, on a magazine cover, or in a coffee table book? Obviously, the first leg of that journey toward immortalizing your layout starts with you. You've easily invested years, if not decades of time, sweat, craftsmanship, and of course, money in your dream layout. In your opinion, and in the opinion of your family, friends, and fellow modelers, you've created a masterpiece. Even if yours is not the best model railroad the world has ever seen, your layout and your trains have played an important role in your life. To a degree, your layout is a part of your legacy.

The crew here at Railscenics can produce a photographic portfolio of your layout that will truly commemorate your achievement. We bring more than 30 years of professional, award-winning editorial and commercial photography experience into your basement, attic, hobby room, or garage. We'll collaborate with you to provide you with a product that will be a lasting tribute to your passion as a model railroader and that will ultimately become part of your family's heritage. After photographing your layout, we are capable of printing a coffee table book, producing a multimedia presentation (with music and/or narration) on a DVD, and, with our publishing experience, submit your layout to calendar and magazine publishers. You may have seen our article featuring Jim Ferguson’s Great Northern layout in the September, 2009 issue of Model Railroader. (See photo above.) As avid model railroaders ourselves, we bring an understanding of model railroading to our photo sessions and an eye for detail that no other commercial photographers can offer.

Please visit our gallery of layouts and judge for yourself. Then email or call us and go ahead and daydream about paging through a real book of full-color photos of your layout that look like they were taken trackside on the prototype. The crew here at Railscenics can make those dreams come true.

Testimonials

The photo of Main Street on the Pennsylvania Maryland & Chesapeake Railroad [to be published in the September, 2010 issue of MR] requires extreme skill on the part of the photographer so as to include both the close up and distant detail down Main Street, not to mention also including the headlight on the incoming Mikado loco. The photographer's skill was so good, that he even included the banner sign down across Main Street proudly advertising the upcoming "4th of July Celebration". I can even see the crack in the concrete street just before it crosses the two tracks. In this photo the photographer has carefully placed the viewer right down on Main Street, and he has carefully conveyed the feeling of "being in the scene". I can actually feel the rumble as the train approaches the crossing. In my opinion, the photo of Main Street conveys the true skill of the photographer, and leaves little for the discerning modeler to find fault with.
